The CEO of Algerian oil company Sonatrach, Rachid Hachichi, held a phone call on Monday with the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Libya's National Oil Corporation (NOC), Farhat Bengdara, on the subject of the resumption of Sonatrach activities in Libya.

The call follows Sonatrach's official notification in August that it is lifting its force majeure on Libya based assets in response to an NOC invitation for international oil and gas companies to resume activities in the country, according to a statement.

The two parties agreed to hold a high-level meeting on November 7 in Tripoli to resume the contractual commitments on exploration in the Ghadames basin, as well as to discuss ways to upgrade the bilateral partnership and strengthen cooperation.

In 2022, Sonatrach signed an agreement with the NOC to resume its activities in Libya, which have been suspended since the outbreak of the crisis in 2011.
