The General Electricity Company of Libya (GECOL) expects to complete the installation of the first gas unit at the Western Mountain Gas Power Station (Ruwais) in the coming days and then begin operational testing.

The company confirmed on Sunday that the massive overhaul work on the first gas unit is nearing completion, with turbine shaft repairs and the placement of two combustion chambers remaining.

It stated that the major overhaul work is being carried out by the German energy company Siemens with the participation of the station's technicians and engineers.

The General Electricity Company said that these efforts come as part of its efforts to support production capacity and raise its efficiency in line with the continuous increase in demand for electrical energy.
