On Friday, the Agency for Combating Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances announced that it had thwarted an attempt to smuggle 100,000 liters of fuel in the Al-Abyar area (62 km east of Benghazi).
Information was received by the agency’s branch in Benghazi stating that there was fuel storage due to smuggling. Members of the agency were then able to monitor suspicious activity for a group of people in the Jahishiya area near Al-Abyar, according to a statement issued by the agency.
They then proceeded to raid the location, finding an underground tank filled with fuel, large plastic storage tanks and a truck used to smuggle fuel.
The agency said that legal measures were taken against the perpatrators and that the seized items were handed over to the Criminal Investigation Agency.
