Mayors of the Jabal Al-Akhdar Municipalities (Eastern Libya) issued a statement on Thursday, denouncing the suspension of flights at Al-Abraq International Airport, which was “in implementation of the instructions of the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Interior, Faraj Qaim, and in solidarity with the strike of workers in handling companies at Benghazi's Benina Airport.”

The mayors of the municipalities (Al-Abraq, Shhahat, Al-Bayda, Al-Sahel, Al-Qayeb, Al-Qubbah, Susa, Derna, and Radama) clarified in their statement that the companies operating at Al-Abraq Airport are private companies and are not covered by the strike, adding that they are ready to work.

They expressed their astonishment at the suspension of flights by the responsible authorities, considering that the reason is not clear and ambiguous, noting that the right of movement for treatment, communication and issues of administrative tasks is a legitimate right of the citizen that rises above the quarrels and disputes.

The statement called on the concerned authorities in the government of national unity to immediately resume work at Al-Abraq Airport, stressing that “the interest of the citizen is above any consideration.”
