The General Electricity Company of Libya (GECOL) announced the completion of repairs on the first unit at the Gulf of Sirte steam power station and the start of operational tests for its entry into the public network.

The unit has been out of service for nearly two years, according to a statement by GECOL, which indicated that the unit would reach its maximum capacity, estimated at 325 megawatts, to contribute to supporting the stability of the public network.

The cost of the Gulf of Sirte steam plant is estimated at about one billion and 400 million dinars, and it includes four production units to generate electricity, including the first unit that was completed and operated for the first time in 2014.

At the end of September, a technical staff specialized in maintenance and operation work arrived at the station from India, with the aim of “evaluating it and determining the needs of the second unit of the station which never went into service in 2014 as it was not completed.”
