Libyan Presidential Council leader Mohamed Menfi said he valued China’s standing with the Libyan people, its support for the council and the interim Government of National Unity in unifying state institutions, foremost of which is the military during a phone call with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi.
He also called for cooperation with the Chinese government in the economic fields, reconstruction, and the return of Chinese companies to work during the coming period.
Menfi also praised China's handling of the Libyan issue through its policy that did not favor one party over the other.
For his part, the Chinese minister expressed his support for the political process and stressed China's support to help the Presidential Council overcome the difficulties it is facing, while rejecting all forms of external interference in Libya.
He announced that the Chinese government will provide 400,000 doses of the Covid-19 vaccine, in addition to some supplies, asking the competent authorities to communicate with China to coordinate their delivery to Libya.
Yi demanded full respect for Libyan sovereignty, saying that his country is working through a mediation role with countries neighboring Libya to solve the problems facing the political process. He also pointed to his country's work to extend the work of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya and remove the hold on frozen Libyan funds.
Foreign Minister Yi noted that the Chinese government pays great attention to reconstruction efforts in Libya, and is ready to contribute through Chinese companies, in accordance with previously concluded agreements, and that it will encourage those companies to return to Libya.
