The head of Libya's government of national unity, Abdulhamid Dabaiba, participated in the removal of sand barriers during the opening of the coastal road (Sirte-Misrata) on Sunday.

The road has been closed since the war in the capital broke out in April 2019.

Dabaiba announced the official re-opening of the coastal road (Sirte–Misrata) on Sunday morning on his personal Twitter account, writing: "Today we will turn a page from the suffering of the Libyan people, taking a new step in construction, stability and unity."

He added, "A tribute to all the sincere efforts that we will live the results of today by opening up the coastal road, together we build and work for the development and prosperity of the nation".
