U.S. ambassador to Libya Richard Norland emphasized "the importance that the House of Representatives convene to give a vote of confidence on the new executive authority as soon as possible" as stipulated in the road map approved by the political dialogue forum.

Norland's statement came during a phone call in which he spoke with the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aguila Saleh, on Wednesday, according to a series of tweets published by the U.S. Embassy in Libya.

The embassy added in a second tweet that "The Speaker said he shared the view that the House of Representatives should assume its responsibility in this regard noting that the government should respect the outcomes of the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum and the Cairo Declaration."

"The United States recognizes that the vote of confidence of the HoR is an important step toward the holding of elections in December of this year," the embassy added.
