People gather in Tripoli's Martyrs Square to celebrate the tenth anniversary of the February 17th revolution

Residents of Tripoli flocked to Martyrs Square on Wednesday to participate in the celebration of the tenth anniversary of the February 17th revolution, amid a heavy security deployment aimed at securing the celebrations.

Photos circulated on social media show the participation of a wide range of Tripoli citizens in the celebrations, while the city was decorated with flags.

Among the beautification work witnessed in the capital were new gardens in Martyrs Square and five main streets: Omar al-Mukhtar Street, Al-Wadi Street, Istiklal Street, Al-Baladiya Street and Al-Ghazala Square.

Security patrols belonging to the Tripoli branch of the General Directorate for Security Operations have also been deployed at the entrances and exits of the city centre to maintain security and prevent any abuses during the festive period, according to the Ministry of Interior.
