The process of counting the votes of the members of the Libya Political Dialogue Forum has begun after the completion of the vote sponsored by the United Nations Support mission in Libya (UNSMIL).
24 candidates from different regions of Libya are vying to be part of the new presidential council, while 21 candidates are vying for the prime minister post, the UNSMIL has announced.
The first round of voting took place within the electoral pools to select the head of the Presidential Council, where the electoral pool of each region voted to choose its representative in the presidential council from among the candidates who applied.
In the event that none of the candidates from the three regions obtained the 70% required to win membership of the Presidential Council, a second stage will be required during which a list system will be voted on.
The candidates competing for membership of the new presidential council have already presented their visions for the management of the next transition phase, in accordance with the decisions of the Berlin Conference.
