The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) announced 24 candidates for the Presidential Council and 21 for the post of Prime Minister, in the interim period ahead of general elections at the end of this year.
The mission published the list of candidates after a week long process for name submission and nomination process.
The mission expressed its deep appreciation for the efforts of the three-member audit committee of the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum to consider candidate applications and to ensure that they conform to the criteria for nomination agreed to by consensus by the forum in Tunisia.
The mission said that all candidates pledged to "respect the road map approved by the forum regarding the preliminary period that paves the way for the holding of national elections on December 24, 2021" and, if selected for the executive authority, the candidates also pledged to submit a declaration to the competent supervisory authorities of their fixed and movable property inside and outside Libya.
According to the statement, the candidates also pledged not to contest the elections at the end of the preliminary period and signed a legally binding affidavit confirming their compliance with the current Libyan nationality law.
