Brega meeting: Agreement to determine unified government spending, prepare a final budget within days

An expanded meeting held in the city of Brega on Tuesday aimed at discussing the economic and financial affairs and achieving integration between policies, concluded by stressing the need to agree on determining the size of government spending and affirming the principle of "efficiency of spending," in addition to "forming a unified financial committee charged with implementing the arrangements.

The meeting was attended by the ministers of Foreign Affairs and Finance for the Government of National Accord, the undersecretary of the Ministry of Finance for the Interim Government, and the deputy governor of the Central Bank of Libya in Al-Bayda.

A statement noted that the meeting was in response to "the calls of the Libyan people to correct and address the economic conditions and to alleviate the complex shocks to the national economy, which directly affected living conditions of citizens."

The discussions focused on "the economic and financial affairs and the integration of macroeconomic (fiscal - monetary - trade) policies and the steps necessary to strengthen the role of those policies," according to the statement, which noted that "the meeting was characterized by a spirit of promoting the national interest."
