A Libyan National disappeared while training in Italy, the local newspaper Latina Oggi, reported from the town of Latina in central Italy, on December 27.
The man belongs to a crew that came to Italy to train at a local academy in late last November. The man disappeared in the town of Gaeta, where he was staying with about 20 other citizens who came for the same purpose, the Italian newspaper reported.
The training crew belongs to the Libyan Government of National Accord's (GNA) coast guard and the training was the first to be conducted by the force, as part of a long set of training courses that Italy had just resumed after last March.
Neither the GNA nor Italy gave any official reason after the disappearance, but the Italian newspaper reported that the Libyan trainee "no longer wants to return to Libya." Adding: "Yhe Italian authorities have been searching for the young officer since December 19, when he could no longer be reached at the hotel where he was staying with his colleagues."
The training course in which the man participated ended on December 22, and the Coast Guard shared photos on Facebook of the returning trainees. Nothing was announced about the disappeared trainee until December 27, when the local newspaper published the news. It did not reveal the trainee's identity or current whereabouts.
