The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) on Tuesday welcomed a consultative meeting of Libyan House of Representatives.
"UNSMIL is encouraged by the large consultative session of the House of Representatives that will begin today in Tangiers and is being hosted by the Kingdom of Morocco," UNSMIL said in a statement.
"That such a diverse range of Parliamentarians from Libya's three regions is meeting under one roof is a positive and welcome step," the statement said.
UNSMIL expressed hope the House of Representatives will "fulfill the Libyan people's expectations for implementation of the roadmap agreed upon by the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum LPDF towards the holding of national elections on December 24, 2021."
UNSMIL said on Monday that the first virtual meeting of the second round of the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum (LPDF) was held to discuss upcoming elections and selection of the country's unified executive authorities.
Under the auspices of the United Nations, the LPDF took place in Tunis recently with participation of 75 Libyans representing the social and political spectrum of Libyan society, with the aim of discussing a political roadmap to achieve lasting peace.
