The head of Libya’s Presidential Council, Fayez Al-Sarraj, announced the allocation of a sum of money for the High National Elections Commission “in order to harness all available resources to enable it to perform its work efficiently and professionally, in welcoming the results of the participants in the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum held in Tunis, agreeing to set a date for holding presidential and legislative elections on December 24, 2021.”

In an official statement, Al-Sarraj stressed “the importance of adhering to the announced date of the elections,” stressing “his full support for this approach that strengthens the demands of citizens and forms the basis of initiatives put forward in the succession plan to get out of the current crisis.”

The statement expressed the hope that "everyone places the interest of the homeland above personal interests, and that the spirit of understanding and brotherhood will prevail throughout Libya, so that together we may reach the desired democratic civil state."

On Sunday, the UN Acting Envoy Stephanie Williams announced the end of the meeting with agreement on three files that include the terms of reference of the executive authority, criteria for candidacy and a road map.
