The media advisor to the Ministry of Health in the Government of National Accord, Amin Al-Hashemi, announced the assassination of the activist and lawyer Hanan Al-Barrasi on 20th Street in Benghazi.
Al-Hashemi wrote, on his page on the social networking site Twitter, "Hanan Al-Barasi, known as Azouz Barqa, assassinated on 20th Street in Benghazi."
Users circulated a video clip showing the assassination on Facebook.
The video showed citizens gathered around her covered body lying on the street while awaiting for the arrival of an ambulance and police.
Hanan Salah, a Libya researcher at Human Rights Watch, considered the assassination of Al-Barrasi “frightening and chilling,” adding it was “reminiscent of other such crimes, for which no one was punished.”
Hanan Salah called on the authorities in the east to "urgently investigate" the incident and hold the perpetrators accountable.
