The Ministry of Interior for Libya’s Government of National Accord expressed its condemnation in the strongest terms in regards to the arrest of citizens arriving from the eastern region to Tripoli’s Mitiga International Airport on Friday.

The ministry said in a statement, “These acts committed by a group of people to serve their personal interests, they do not represent the Government of National Accord and do not serve the public interest of the country.”

The ministry affirmed that "this irresponsible act does not serve the interest of the homeland, but rather increases the division between the people of the same nation and undermines the current ongoing negotiations to find a solution to the Libyan crisis and bring the country to safety."

The statement indicated that the Minister of Interior, Fathi Bashagha, issued instructions to the director of Tripoli's security and the head of the Criminal Investigation Agency to investigate the incident and take legal measures against the armed group that carried out the act.
