The Ministry of Interior for Libya's Government of National Accord (GNA) announced the arrest of one of the accused in the shooting attack on protesters in Martyrs Square in Tripoli, on Thursday.
Security services said they began an investigation to determine the suspects identity and the party to which he belongs and that he will be referred for Public Prosecution after the investigation concludes. The results of the investigation will also be presented to the head of Libya's Presidential Council, according to a statement released on Friday.
The Ministry affirmed the prosecution of all those accused of targeting civilians and threatening the lives of peaceful demonstrators, while also calling on the demonstrators to adhere to the law and not damage public or private property.
The ministry had issued a warning on Thursday that it may use force against armed groups that assaulted the demonstrators.
