The Speaker of Libya's House of Representatives, Aguila Saleh, discussed on Monday, ways to "preserve the ceasefire and return to the dialogue table to end the Libyan crisis." with the US ambassador Richard Norland in Cairo.
The House of Representatives website added that the meeting also discussed “developments in the situation in Libya, the region and the initiative by the Speaker from which the Cairo Declaration emerged."
The Libyan News Agency in Benghazi quoted the media advisor to Saleh as saying, "The meeting discussed the actual steps taken to move forward with work on the initiative, which culminated in the Cairo Declaration in accordance with the outcomes of the Berlin conference."
Stressing that "an agreement was made to continue the ceasefire and to keep the demilitarized cities of Sirte and Al-Jufra until the political dialogue resumed."
The Libyan News Agency in Benghazi also indicated that the US ambassador Norland, "explained his country's position on the need to stop the fighting in Libya and that there is no military solution to the crisis."
