The Undersecretary of the Ministry of Interior for Libya's Government of National Accord (GNA), Muhammad Al-Shaibani, held a meeting with the Maltese Ambassador Charles Saliba, representatives of the Prime Minister and the Maltese Ministry of Defense, to discuss illegal immigration.
This came at a meeting at the Ministry’s Cabinet in Wednesday, in the presence of security leaders. Al-Shaibani stressed that the file is “very thorny,” noting what had been reached with the agreements with the Maltese government and called for focusing on cooperation and putting the agreements into practice, according to the ministry’s statement.
For his part, the Director of the General Department of Coastal Security, Mohamed Al-Nuwaisiri, stressed the need to benefit from these agreements, in order to serve the interests of both countries and develop the Coastal Security Department to reduce this phenomenon, which affects the two countries.
The meeting also discussed cooperation between the two countries in the field on dismantling explosives with Maltese Prime Minister's representative expressing his country's readiness to provide support in explosives removal.
