Russia discusses Libyan crisis with Egypt and the African Union

The Special Representative of the Russian President for the Middle East and Africa, Mikhail Bogdanov, discussed the situation in Sudan and Libya with African Union Commissioner for Peace and Security, Smaїl Chergui, on Tuesday, .

Bogdanov renewed "his country's support for the effective role of the African Union in resolving African crises and conflicts," according to a Russian Foreign Ministry statement, reported by the Sputnik news agency.

In a related context, the Russian Deputy Foreign Minister, Sergey Vershinin, discussed the Libyan and Syrian crises with the Egyptian Ambassador to Moscow, Ehab Nasr.

The Russian Foreign Ministry stated that the two sides discussed "a settlement in the Middle East and Libya," and they discussed "in detail the current situation on the ground in Syria in the context of the necessity of combating terrorism."
