"We should not let Libya slip into something," said the acting UN Secretary General's envoy and head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya, saying that the international community needs to work "together, collectively."

"In view of the increasing external interference and the flow of arms into the country, we can only expect an increased and bloody escalation of this crisis," she added in her briefing today to the UN Security Council on developments in Libya.

Williams stressed the need to "put pressure on international and regional actors that are increasing the Libyan crisis." And she warned that "the war in Libya will expand and lead to disastrous results due to foreign interference."
