Forces answering to Libya's Government of National Accord (GNA) under Prime Minister Fayez Al-Sarraj announced Monday that they had taken Al-Watiya base about 130 km southwest of Tripoli.
The strategic position had been under Khalifa Haftar. The Volcano of Anger Facebook page cited General Osama al-Juwaili, head of the joint operations room, as saying that the forces had taken the airbase. In April, the forces retook seven strategic centers - including Sabratha and Surman - and restored control along the entire coast from the capital to the border with Tunisia. Thus, if confirmed, the taking of the base would be yet another harsh blow to Haftar in just a month.
