The commander-in-chief of the Libyan National Army, Marshal Khalifa Haftar, announced that in repsonse to calls from citizens that the armed forces are invalidating the Libyan political agreement signed in the Moroccan city of Skhirat in 2015, describing the agreement as "the suspect that destroyed the country and led to it's dangerous slide."
Haftar, in a speech broadcast on Monday evening, expressed that "the General Command took this historic decision, in these exceptional circumstances, invalidating the political agreement and making it a part of the past in accordance with the will of the Libyan people as the only source of power." He also declared "the response of the General Command of the armed forces is implementing the will of the people with the heavy weight of trust, obligations, responsibilities before God, our people, conscience and history. ”
Haftar added: "We are subject to the will of the people and will work to the best of our abilities to relieve their suffering and that serving the citizen, protecting their rights, realizing their aspirations, and harnessing capabilities for their benefit are our top priorities."
Haftar also pledged to work to create the conditions for building permanent civil state institutions according to the will and aspirations of the people while continuing the liberation process until its end.
