The management of the 'Man-Made River' System announced on Monday, that the pumping of water has stopped after an armed group stormed the Al-Shweiref site, forcing workers to close all flow control valves and to halt operations until their demands are met.
A statement released by the management said that this attack will cause water outages tonight in the cities of Bani Walid, Tarhuna, Tripoli and the surrounding areas, and stop the pumping of water to Gharyan and some cities of the western mountain region. Calling on security and military authorities to assume their responsibility and protect water wells, control stations and water pipelines in the system.
Concern has increased with the frequent attacks on the river system, which threatens a water disaster in the country, as most citizen receive their water supply from it. In addition to the millions of dollars that the country incurs to repair damage that occurs everytime the system is shut off.
