The Minister of Foreign Affairs for Libya's Government of National Accord (GNA), Mohamed Al-Taher Siala, said he has reservations about the European Union’s decision to launch a maritime mission to implement the UN resolution banning the supply of weapons to Libya.

Siala said in a statement that the implementation of the decision in this makes "the GNA the target of oversight while disregarding the supply of weapons the other side of the conflict."

The European Union announced earlier today the launch of a naval military operation, noting that it will use satellites to carry out the operation in addition to inspecting ships off the Libyan coast.

The IRINI operation will also take on additional tasks such as monitoring the illegal exports of oil from Libya, training the coast guard and border guards, as well as fighting human smuggling.
