Merkel calls for more efforts to establish the "fragile" ceasefire in Libya

German Chancellor Angela Merkel stressed today, Friday, "the need to make more efforts to make the fragile cease-fire in Libya a firm one" and revealed that the UN Security Council will "endorse" the articles adopted at the Berlin Conference on Libya.

Merkel pointed out during the joint press conference with Turkish President Recep Erdogan in Istanbul, "the importance of supporting Fayez Al-Sarraj, in ceasefire efforts," expressing her hope in this regard that the Commander in Chief of the Army, Marshal Khalifa Haftar take "positive" steps.

Merkel also discussed the possibility of the Military Committee meeting in Libya at the initiative of the UN envoy Ghassan Salameh and noted that the UN Security Council will agree to the 55 provisions of the Berlin Conference on Libya.
