Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte stressed the necessity for countries to agree to solve the Libyan crisis, in statements after a joint meeting held Friday morning, with both German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Emmanuel Macron on the crisis.

Conte said that the meeting held on the sidelines of the European summit in Brussels "went well", adding: "We shared the assessments as well as the need for Europe to make its voice heard," noting that "foreign countries are now playing a very clear military role in Libya, in terms of equiping soldiers and financing and must address them.”

Regarding the Europe, he said: "The (European) consensus remains completely on the fact that this conflict must be ended immediately and moved towards a political solution."
