The United Nations responds to Greece's request for condemnation of MOU between Libya GNA and Turkey

The United Nations stressed today, Wednesday, the importance of Greece and Turkey conducting a "continuous dialogue" on sensitive files, against the backdrop of Athens' request for a condemnation of the Memorandum of Understanding signed by the Libya's Government of National Accord with Turkey on November 27, regarding the limits of maritime jurisdiction in the Mediterranean.

The assistant spokesman of the United Nations, Farhan Haq, said, "The United Nations Secretariat does not adopt a position nor comment on issues related to the sovereignty, rights and legislation of countries in relation to their maritime areas." He added: "But, in some areas, such as closed or semi-closed seas, Attention should focus on the interests of the other parties, ”according to Agence France-Presse.

He continued: "We are confident that all the parties concerned acknowledge the necessity of a continuous dialogue on these sensitive issues, and accordingly, and in line with the principles of the United Nations Charter, all differences must be resolved in a peaceful manner."
