The Foreign Ministry for Libya's Interim Government denied that minister, Abdelhadi Lahweij, said he hoped Libya would be able to establish normal relations with Israel if the Palestinian issue was resolved.

The ministry's statement said Lahwiej "completely denies the reports."

The Israeli newspaper Maariv published a statement attributed to Lahwiej, in which he said he hoped that "Libya can establish normal relations with Israel, if the Palestinian issue was resolved," declaring his rejection of "oil agreements signed between the Government of National Accord and Turkey," while condemning "Turkish intervention in Libyan affairs."
