Libyan Navy spokesman Brigadie Ayoub Qassem announced on Thursday the rescue of 45 illegal immigrants aboard a rubber boat that crashed in the Mediterranean Sea near the Al-Bouri field, 55 miles northwest of the capital Tripoli.

Qassem said in a press statement that the rescue operation was carried out by a patrol from the Tripoli sector of the Coast Guard immediately after receiving reports on Wednesday that a boat carrying 45 illegal immigrants, including eight women, and two children was in danger.

Qassem added that the migrants were returned at 8 pm today to the Tripoli naval base and handed over to the Janzour shelter center, operated by illegal immigration agency, after they were provided humanitarian and medical assistance.
