The National Oil Corporation (NOC) held an emergency meeting at the Zawiya Oil Refinery Company following an "suspicious" explosion in the offices assigned to the team overseeing the second phase of the refinery development project on Monday.
An official investigation was opened during the meeting, which included the Industrial Security Department of the National Oil Corporation and Al-Zawiya Oil Refining Company and the Akakus Oil Operations Company. The meeting was also attended by officials from the Petroleum Facilities Guard, the Security Service and the Municipal Council.
The participants agreed to develop measures to improve security procedures, including the establishment of a joint security operations room, and the updating of monitoring, technology and communications protocols.
The Foundation expressed its "satisfaction that employees were not present during the explosion," and condemned "attempts to intimidate oil workers and endanger their lives," asserting that it will resort to all available legal means to prosecute everyone behind this outrageous attack.
