Coast Guard rescues 23 migrants, including 18 Libyans, north of Melita

A western sector Coast Guard patrol rescued 23 migrants, including 18 Libyans on a boat in the Mediterranean Sea, about 18 miles north of Melita, the navy said on Thursday.

The marine information office said on its Facebook page that the rescue operation was carried out on Wednesday by Zawia patrol, noting that among the migrants "18 of were Libyan, including two women, 4 from Egypt and one Sudanese."

The Information Office confirmed that the migrants were handed over to the Al-Nasr Center for the Prevention of Illegal Immigration in Zawiya after humanitarian aid and medical assistance were provided to them.
