The Municipal council of Sirte, revealed on Friday the reason for shutdown of water supply in the city on Thursday, through a statement posted on the council's page on Facebook.

The council said that the action was meant to allow the filling of a pipeline from the Man Made River project, pointing out that the engineers and a reserve unit from Sirte's Security Directorate oversaw the operation. The action allowed the water supply to Sirte and the city of Ben Jawad to replenish from several wells an resevoirs.

Sirte and a number of other cities have suffered from water scarcity over the past few weeks due to attacks on the Man Made River project .
