Interior Minister Bashagha meets with Maltese Ambassador, discuss immigration and investments

Maltese Ambassador to Libya Charles Saliba and GNA Interior Minister Fathi Bashagha met on Tuesday to discuss the possibilty of the Maltese embassy returning to Tripoli, illegal immigration and investments.

According to the Ministry of the Interior's statement on Facebook, the ambassador confirmed his government's support for the Fayez Al-Sarraj's peace initiative to end the crisis in Libya.

He also stressed the depth of the historic relations between Libya and Malta, expressing hope for the return of economic and commercial activities between the two countries, the statement said.

"The ambassador expressed his country's willingness to have its embassy in Tripoli resume working, as well as continue joint working in different fields and activating joint committees," the statement added.

Since early April, Tripoli has been witnessing violent clashes between the government forces and the eastern-based army, which is trying to take over the city from the UN-backed government.
