The Libyan Red Crescent said that a emergency team consisting of members from Tobruk, Derna, Al-Bayda, Benghazi and Jalu has traveled today to the city of Ghat to assist in the recovery operations following the disaster that hit the city during the last days of heavy flooding and subsequent destruction.

The Red Crescent said in a statement that the Ghat assistance team, led by the emergency room of the General Secretariat of the Libyan Red Crescent, aims to support the Ghat branch in carrying out its humanitarian tasks.

In recent days, the city of Ghat has been subjected to unprecedented torrential rains, resulting in deaths and injuries among civilians. Libya's Government of National Accord and Libya's Interim Government have both declared Ghat a disaster area.
