The German ambassador to Libya, Oliver Owcza, said that his country was one of the first supporters of the adoption by the UN Security Council resolution 2473, extending the period of arms embargo imposed on Libya.

The German ambassador stressed, through a post on his Twitter page, that "all imports of arms to Libya in an unauthorized manner violate the Security Council resolution."

The UN Security Council extended Resolution 2473 for the arms embargo on Libya during a meeting at its headquarters in New York on Monday.

The Council also voted during the meeting to approve the extension of the mandate of Member States to inspect ships believed to violate the arms embargo on the high seas off the coast of Libya, in accordance with Council Resolution 2420.

UN Security Council Resolution 2420 was issued on 11 June 2018.
