The head of Libya's Presidential Council, Fayez Al-Sarraj, said that the country was on the verge of a political settlement after his sixth meeting with Marshal Khalifa Haftar in Abu Dhabi. Adding, there was a strategy to build a unified Libyan army under civilian authority and to adopt a mature track away from rhetoric of hatred.

Al-Sarraj said during his meeting with the president and members of the European High-level Committee on European Affairs, that the "the attack on Tripoli is an attempted coup to undermine the political process."

"What encouraged Haftar to take this course is what he got from the support and armament of some countries even to the illusion that he could invade Tripoli within days."
