The commander of the Libyan national army, Marshal Khalifa Haftar, will visit Rome in the next several days after his expected visit to Paris on Wednesday, according to the Italian news agency AKI. Alwasat was unable to confirm this through independent sources.

Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte said Tuesday after meeting with the head of Libya's presidential council, Fayez Al-Sarraj in Rome, that he was seeking to meet Marshal Haftar in the near future, saying: "I am confident that I will meet directly with Marshal Haftar soon."

"In all my talks, I still say that the solution can not go through military means," he added.

French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian said on Tuesday that President Emmanuel Macron wanted to meet with the commander-in-chief of the armed forces, Marshal Khalifa Haftar, "to urge a ceasefire and resume peace talks."
