Italian Foreign Minister Enzo Moavero Milanesi held a meeting in Rome on Tuesday with his UAE counterpart Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed al-Nahyan, authorities said.

A brief statement published by the AKI agency said that the meeting "focused on the latest developments in Libya," and the impact of field developments in the southern suburbs of the capital Tripoli.

The meeting comes on the eve of a meeting between the Italian Foreign Minister on Wednesday, the Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations to Libya, Ghassan Salamé, as part of efforts to reach a ceasefire in Libya.

The southern suburbs of Tripoli have seen violent confrontations between the forces of the Government of National Accord and the General Command, since April 4th.
