The head of Libya's Presidential Council in the Government of National Accord, Fayez Al-Sarraj, issued two decisions, the first of which included the demotion of Abdulrahman Al-Taweel from Major General to Brigadier General, and the second to terminate his military service.
Decision No. 27 of 2019 issued on Monday by the President of the Presidential Council to "reduce the rank of Major General Abdulrahman Al-Taweel to the rank of Brigadier General."
The second resolution No. 27 of 2019 stipulates "the termination of the service of Brigadier General Abdulrahman Al-Taweel, summoned to the military service by Decree No. 62 of 2017."
Al-Sarraj, issued a decision in February to appoint Lieutenant-General Mohammed Mahdi Sharif, as Army Chief of Staff.
Al-Taweel rejected the decision and told the Russian news agency 'Sputnik' on Saturday that he was "still chief of staff" and that he "is exercising his duties and has not handed over power to anyone else."
