The Italian cabinet reappointed Giuseppe Boccino Grimaldi as Ambassador to Libya on Wednesday, he replaces Giuseppe Perrone who was recalled to Rome on August 10th for "threats to his personal security."

Former Ambassador Perrone was also accused of interfering in Libya’s internal affairs by calling for the postponement of the proposed December 2018 elections.

Grimaldi was Italy's ambassador to Libya from September 2011 to February 2015, when Rome closed its embassy in the Libyan capital for security reasons.

After his time in Libya, Grimaldi served as Director General for the European Union in Italy's Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
