US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo described his meeting with the head of Libya's Presidential Council, Fayez Al-Sarraj, as "very good", reiterating support for the plan of UN envoy Ghassan Salamé and the National Conference.
"Very good meeting with Libyan PM al-Sarraj. Reaffirmed our support for SRSG Ghassan Salame as he works with Libyans toward National Conference & electoral process.," Pompeo added in a tweet.
Al-Sarraj and Pompeo met on Tuesday on the sidelines of NATO meetings in Belgium, where the State Department said in a statement that both parties reaffirmed their "joint commitment to combat terrorism in Libya."
The US Secretary of State reiterated support for the work of the U mission in Libya and envoy Ghassan Salamé. "Our common goal is a stable, unified Libya that provides economic prosperity and security for all Libyans," he concluded.
