The Italian government has received final assurances that Marshal Khalifa Haftar will participate in the Palermo conference on Libya, which begins early next week after a brief visit Thursday to Moscow by the head of Italian Foreign Intelligence Alberto Manenti, according to the AKI news agency.

The commander of the Libyan armed forces, Marshal Haftar, is currently in Moscow and held a meeting with Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shogui on Wednesday, in which they discussed ways to resolve the crisis in Libya and security issues in the Middle East, Russian media reported.

Libyan media recently reported that Haftar would decline participating in the Palermo conference because there was no clear agenda or objectives for the conference, which will be hosted in Sicily on Monday and Tuesday.
