"Eighty percent of Libyans insist on elections," said Ghassan Salamé, the head of the UN support mission in Libya.

"The House of Representatives has not taken its responsibility properly, and the postponement of its meetings is only meant to waste time," Salamé told the UN Security Council via videoconference from Tunisia.

Salamé's briefing comes days before the international conference on Libya, to be hosted by the southern Italian city of Palermo next week.
