116 migrants rescued north of Zawiya

116 migrants, including 96 men, 16 women and four children, were rescued aboard a rubber boat, Libyan naval spokesman Brigadier Bahar Ayoub Qasim said on Tuesday.

The spokesmansaid in a statement issued today that a patrol of the Coast Guard WesternSector was able to save migrants near the Sabratha field platform, about 50 miles north of Zawiya.

He pointed out that most of the migrants were of different African nationalities, including four from Egypt.

He confirmed that after the delivery of humanitarian and medical aid they were transfered to the illegal immigration control.
