Italian Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Matteo Salvini has announced that immigration flows to Italy have shrunk by more than 80 percent, according to the Italian news agency Aki.

"As of January 1, 22,167 migrants have arrived in Italy, which is 80.62 percent less than the same period in 2017, when the Mediterranean crossed 114,356 migrants and arrived on our coast" Salvini said.

"We have so far managed to achieve a reduction of 92,000 immigrants." Adding, "While others continue to speak, we are following up."

According to the Italian Interior Ministry, since June, 8,468 migrants have arrived on the coast of Italy, while in the June-November period last year they numbered 54,128.
