Fathi Bashagha announces establishment of the human rights office at the Ministry of Interior

The Minister of the Interior of the Government of National Reconciliation, Fathi Bashagha, has ordered the establishment of an office for Human Rights Affairs with administrative subordination directly to the Minister of the Interior.

According to decision 1950 for 2018, the Office of Human Rights Affairs consists of the following units: the Complaints and Communications Receiving Unit, the Investigation and Information Gathering Unit, the Investigations and Inference Unit, and the Monitoring and Reporting Unit.

The Ministry of the Interior said in a statement on its official website Facebook that the Human Rights Office will work in all parts of Libya and will investigate and gather evidence on the human rights complaints received by the office and assist in criminal proceedings, as provided for in the relevan criminal and legislative code.

The Office will also hear the testimony of witnessesm use the experts to conduct the necessary inspections, as well as have the power to arrest and conduct searches.

In addition to investigations the office will publish reports and news on human rights violations in Libya.
