"The stability of Libya is a priority for the security of the Mediterranean," said Italian Defense Minister Elisabetta Trenta.
The Italian official gave a speech at Rome's Chambino military airport to commemorate General Inizio Vicheillelli being elected to the post of Chief of General Staff, succeeding General Claudio Graziano.
In her speech, Trenta noted that "the dangerous developments of the Syrian-Iraqi arena is still a matter of particular concern." She also spoke of the "immigration crisis" that raises "important questions about European security and cohesion."
On the role of the army, the Italian official said: "We have seen that the armed forces have played a role in recent years, more than ever, in the life of the country," among other things, "cybersecurity and information security."
