Italian Foreign Minister Enzo Moavero Milanesi said his country's planned conference next month would be more for Libya than just a dialogue.

"For us, as Italy, the issue of maritime security in the Mediterranean is very important, which also means stabilizing an important country in the region," Milanesi told a news conference in Moscow on Monday with his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov.

"We have invited many countries in the Arab world, Africa, the Mediterranean region and Europe, as well as the permanent members of the United Nations Security Council, to the Libya conference, which we will hold from 12 to 13 November in Palermo, Sicily, the province closest to Libya itself," Milanesi said.

Italy's leading dipolmat expressed the hope that the conference will contribute to progress towards stability in Libya, saying "we hope that this conference will strengthen the process of stability and security in this important country" and that it will be able to promote the full implementation of the UN plan for the Libyan people to reach elections," when all conditions are guaranteed.
